SUMMARY:Safety and Justice: A Call for Reform in Domestic Violence Arrest\, Prosecution and Treatment Policies
DESCRIPTION:Over the past 40 years\, a great deal of progress has been made in lowering rates of domestic violence in our communities. This progress has been uneven\, however\, due to continuing misconceptions about the causes and dynamics of domestic violence\, which include an exaggerated focus on males as perpetrators and females as victims\, as well as a heavy-handed law enforcement response that compromises basic due process rights of criminal defendants without necessarily increasing victim safety.  Drawing upon research findings presented in their upcoming book\, Gender and domestic violence:  Contemporary legal practice and intervention reforms (Oxford University Press\, 2022)\, the presenters seek to inform and guide prosecutors\, criminal defense attorneys\, policy makers\, victim advocates\, and intervention providers in helping to rectify those shortcomings.

SUMMARY:How infant-led practice in family violence settings can nurture hope for infants and families
DESCRIPTION:Infants (0–24 months) are at a critical and formative stage of development. If exposed to domestic violence\, they are at higher risk of neurological\, psychological and physical harm. When working with families experiencing family and domestic violence\, it is important to consider the infant’s experience\, and recognise their inherent capacities for engagement\, exploration and discovery. Within family and domestic violence practice\, infants can be observed formally or informally within a range of settings. \nThe presenters will explore practice contexts\, particularly focusing on infant observations and relationship-based conversations that support parents and infants to make meaning and heal. Recognising the interdisciplinary practices that contribute to safety and care for infants experiencing family and domestic violence this webinar will: \n• Discuss practices that support the infant as an active agent of change in working with families experiencing family and domestic violence. \n• Explore how infant observations and respectful curiosity can support parents and infants to describe their stories of hope and resilience. \n• Consider how preverbal infants communicate with their parents and how they make meaning of their experiences of trauma. This webinar will be of interest to practitioners working in the child\, family\, health\, accommodation and housing sectors who encounter or directly work with infants\, toddlers and families within the context of domestic and family violence. \n  \nPresenters: Dr Wendy Bunston\, Tauri Smart and Kristin Walsh. Facilitated by Vicki Mansfield \n

SUMMARY:Inviting Global Healing: Climate Change Conference
DESCRIPTION:Trauma is at the root of our inaction in the face of Climate Change. Trauma symptoms of numbness\, apathy\, hyper-activation and polarisation dramatically slow down our ability to respond adequately. Trauma is the sand in the system and the reason it is so hard to implement our good intentions and climate agreements. \nAs we expand our global healing movement\, we invite you to join us for meditations\, updates from COP27\, interviews with Thomas Hübl and others\, and news from communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Join us to help restore our collective sensitivity and compassion and increase our flow of possibility and potential.

SUMMARY:Lessons from a Rural Inquest: Taking Action to Support the Recommendations from the Renfrew County Inquest
DESCRIPTION:On September 22\, 2015\, Carol Culleton\, Anastasia Kuzyk and Nathalie Warmerdam were murdered in a triple femicide in rural eastern Ontario. In June 2022\, a coroner’s inquest examined the circumstances of the deaths to consider how future such deaths could be prevented. The jury produced 86 recommendations for system changes for possible implementation by the provincial government and other public bodies. \nThrough the lens of the panelists – all of whom played key roles in the inquest – this special online event will explore some of the key moments in the proceedings\, with a focus on the recommendations and what all of us can do to advocate for their implementation.
